8/5/09 From a serious Hermes collector - she ordered the Hermes blouse online:"I absolutely love my new blouse! It is GORGEOUS!!! Perfect condition. This was a brilliant transaction"
14/4/09 - From lovely Auzelle in the USA...
"The dress arrived yesterday (very quick!). It's gorgeous, and I'm indescribably happy with it. Thank you so much." Thursday 11th June 2009 Soon this is going to turn into a 'Feedback' page as I have lots of lovely emails from web customers to add - for the latest on my 'blog' go to: samayalingvintage.blogspot.com/

Sunday 31st May 2009 Amazing best ever weather! camping is the best, now I have sand in my hair and smell like a fire but feel lovely and brown and refreshed from the sea - I have to go in even if I don't feel like it due to 7 year old boy going in huge waves alone otherwise. Only one camping row when big Rob drove my car too fast down the very bumpy track and ripped off the under carriage, all fixed now. More dresses and jewellery being put on this week and getting ready for the Tribal Art and Vintage fair on Sunday 7th @ The Hilton Olympia, London - do email me for tickets. I have found three huge African kaftans from the early 1900s and some art deco headresses..... last thing about camping - here is a picture of a tent like mine - beautiful but quite an art to put up.

Wednesday 27th May 2009 Off camping to Devon - do call the mobile if it is urgent - otherwise back on Monday 1st x here is my secret beach......

Saturday 23rd May 2009 Crazy web week, went offline for a few days due to I do not know - my web man has it fixed now. Stroud Vintage Fair was lovely today, really relaxing as quiet but still saw all my regular visitors and bought myself some antique cushions (they don't smell antique) a 1940s coat and a sweet 1950s cardigan (wrong season but you can never tell when you will find something perfect). It was great to see Fran again, she bought the little 1920s fringed dress that I have had restored, it looked incredible on her but she said she wanted to wear it over her jeans! Hopefully she will get some nice footless tights instead....I sold this lovely early 1900s beach dress to a Bristol lady this morning, it can be ruched up for paddling!

Monday 18th May 2009 Absolutely knackered after Frock Me and Hammersmith yesterday. I still have to unpack so thought I would delay by doing emails first....we had a great day at both fairs, lots of new visitors and it was lovely to meet Cleo and Mark from c20 finally, if you have not seen their website have a look: www.c20vintagefashion.co.uk incredible Ossie Clark pieces and lots more....I found myself a beautiful Dior 1970 (stamped) necklace and a huge canvas holdall - I am going to use at as a pillow on long journeys. Stroud vintage fair is this Saturday 23rd - I will be there - bit nervous about it as I am going to a friends wedding on Friday and never usually go out the night before a fair! Come on Sunshine...

Sunday 10th May 2009 I had a good read of the supplements in todays papers and there is a great article in the Observer Woman about Rick Owens, I'm going to visit his new shop in South Audley St, London W1 as soon as possible, I think a leather jacket (hopefully like the one pictured below) by him will be a great investment....have a look at the new collections: www.rickowens.eu/ There was also a good piece on skirts, women of all ages looking great in minis...they did all have nice legs though, I could not get away with minis even in my teens, too much muscle not enough length.

5th May 2009 I did a stand at the Redland Green Fair yesterday, which as it suggests is on a green, outside, opposite my mums house. I had my vintage jewellery and a few bags and shoes and had a great day - thanks especially to Edie for helping me!. My mum and sister were selling their home made mirrors and vintage kitchenalia.....it rained and it was very cold so I ended up buying a horrible jumper from a second hand stall and wearing a mac over it, making me look rather unstylish. I really prefer indoor vintage fairs, much more civilized. I met up with Chris today and I have the images! here's one for now - I want to load up the dresses and jewellery on the website in the next few days.

27th April 2009 Well I have no images to show you yet. Lovely Chris Lucas (photographer) is going to re size them all for me - should have them by Thursday. His new studio is in a very old falling down court house in the centre of Bristol - tucked behind a police station. I loved it at first, old mosaic floors, beautiful wood everywhere and huge court rooms off the long dark dusty corridors...amazing photo shoot possibilities. After lunch Chris said "it is haunted, do you want to know about the ghost?' (looking at me as if I might be scared) of course I said yes and so heard about a horrible ghost man with sticking up wiry hair and pointed teeth. After that I could not go to the loo or anywhere on my own, jumped at every strange noise and followed Chris about everywhere. Later he told me he has slept there ALL NIGHT in the 'holding cells' with a group of ghost busters - I then started to think he was having me on - but apparently they communicated with the ghost man and it 'came through' that his name was KEVIN. hum. However silly it sounds to you now the building was as creepy as anywhere I have ever been and my arm hairs were up and down like a mexican wave. I was very happy to leave.

26th April 2009 Tomorrow we are finally shooting new stock for the website - its all ready along with my mannequins and steamer etc..........
I've mainly chosen summer pieces for now - lots of cream and white dresses - a few sweet cotton 1930s day dresses - tops (one amazing huge puffed sleeved victorian bodice) and a few rare tribal pieces, huge skirt, 60s cotton kaftan, 70s maxi dresses and little mirror top with ties at the back - very sweet - will show you all tomorrow. I had a Sunday off today - beautiful lie in, breakfast, bit of very needed gardening and then watched my son play football against some rough lot, his team won 9 - 7. I did find my self jumping up and down and shouting "get down there" (meaning the goal) and "come on" (at boring bits) in a Delia Smith type fashion. Robert said afterwards that he wished I could just watch......
have a look at these lovely belts...more coming soon, all colours and designs...all vintage.

20th April 2009 I had another brilliant day at Hammersmith - so busy no time to shop for me which is good for the balance. A few famous faces as usual and lots of designers - so many stalls there this time that Harvey (amazing tribal art jewellery) was outside the front doors! Next monday I'm doing a fresh stock shoot with some of the beautiful pieces I have collected for the website.....

18th April 2009 Just madly steaming and packing for Hammersmith Vintage Fair tomorrow - I have got some incredible pieces to show - 3 rails this time and a small table of exquisite accessories - I went to the Vintage Salon event last night at The Octagon, Bath, last night - very very good and clever to give me a glass of wine on the way in (thank you Sallie and Sue! - I spent lots of money on myself and a few bits for the stand, Liz Van Hasselt took a rather embarrassing photo of me trying out an 80s dress - hope she does not put it on her blog (please dont liz) xx. Hope to see you tomorrow xx

Later on the 15th April...just received some pictures from a shoot - styled by Lou @ Ruined (www.myspace.com/ruinedclothes) and photographed by WWW.FILIPK.NET... featuring my selection of vintage pieces - great model too - (her details to follow)- here are two for now - first a pair of 80s Fendi leopard print jeans then a huge Hamsa Necklace from Touareg - all other pictures will be on the homepage asap.

2nd April 2009 Brilliant lucky week! We (me and Big Robert) went hunting vintage across the country and found some incredible pieces, some of the best I have ever seen infact - I will be putting some on over the next couple of weeks, including a head dress from the 1920s...quite a few of the pieces are from Africa and the East Indies, huge garments, crazy bracelets and a very beautiful Matador costume from early 1900s, it is red velvet with gold lace inserts and other details that are secret for now- it is AMAZING!! We also found some sweet nude coloured flapper dresses, one is fringed and the other beaded, these need a little fiix up and clean - will have them ready asap as they are perfect for summer.... and one amazing black couture beaded 1920s dress - this is coming to the fairs this weekend....I've just put a few later pieces on the website....the four dresses pictured below are available now. 20th March 2009 Big blog gaps, too busy for words - anyone notice I spelt bear instead of bare in my last entry? LIz Van Hasselt did! Thank you Liz x Hammersmith was brilliant last Sunday - lots of amazing pieces on show, I did not get time to buy as it was so busy, next one April 19th....now am getting ready for Frock Me on Sunday 22nd (do email me for tickets) I have found some lovely pieces to bring, military jacket with chainmail shoulders, nautical dresses and Cacharel skirts, along with plenty of summer dresses, cotton and printed and starting at £50.00 - I will be doing another photoshoot for images and stock for the website asap....I have just updated the links page with some new links to amazing vintage sites as well as some cute images...this little cape below is coming with me on Sunday x

12th March 2009 Just recovering from my sons 7th birthday party - twelve 7 year old boys in my flat and garden, big learning experience, never ever again! 25th February 2009 I have finally updated the Vintage Fashion Fair Diary, take a look - there is a new fair starting in London on March the 8th which I think is going to be fantastic - lots of new dealers and in a spectacular venue, here is the link: www.vintagefashionlondon.co.uk Another event closer to me is in Bath on the 18 & 19 of April in The Octogan, amazing place with vintage dealers from all over the country, as always email me for further information - tickets etc.

15th February 2009 I am 33 in two days! I did not make it to either of the fairs today, my man Robert took some of my stuff to Frock Me in the end as he was going and did quite well - I hear both fairs were great, my little boy has not been well and said to me at five am this morning "mum can your customers not have you and I have you today" and that was it for me, home I stayed. I have a few lovely pairs of cowboy boots to upload asap - and more dresses - keep looking! x

28th January 2009 I have just found this film made by Karl Lagerfeld about Chanel - see the link! strange but lovely.
www.chanel.com/fashion/8-fashion-trends#8-fashion-trends-the-first-movie-by-karl-lagerfeld-0,47

26th January 2009 Just starting to feel awake after a late night at the Colston Hall Bristol last night - GRACE JONES live! wow, she is 61 and looks better than me (age 32). She changed costume for each song (but the strapless g - string body suit stayed throughout and we had lots of looks at her bottom) - the head wear was incredible.......just sorting out my antique stock for the Horticultural Antiques Fair this Sunday 1st Feb, lots of very old jewellery and other stranges objects. If you would like to come email me for tickets....more soon.
20th January 2009 CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA! Just a short note to say I am about to load up some more dresses and scarves - maybe this necklace......its 1930s paste, perfect condition and incredible.

14th January 2009 Long time no blog, forgot to say to everyone that two of my best dresses were worn by models doing a walkabout on the Antiques Roadshow on the 28th December (images coming soon) They hired them from me and I have to say the lady in the 20s dress was being rather rough, swishing about in my dress! Hammersmith was great on the 11th, everyone does seem to be feeling the pinch but still hunting for a unique piece of fashion history - vintage is always good value. I am doing antique fairs from the 1st of Feb, on my buying trips for fashion I keep accidently buying deco mirrors, wasp waisted mannequins and wierd jewellery and now have found the perfect fair to sell them at. The Horticultural Hall Antiques Fair - www.adamsantiquesfairs.com. First one is 1st February from 10 am.

30th December 2008 Happy New Year Everyone! I am having a big problem with my email account and have had orders and not received the forms so if anyone is reading this and awaiting reply and invoice please accept my apologies and email me at my other address - samayaling@yahoo.co.uk Otherwise having a lovely lazy time, have done some good buying too and looking forward to the fairs, starting 11th Jan @ Hammersmith....x samaya.

16th December 2008 Hello! now I am done til after Christmas with the fairs, I had great day at Hammersmith and my man Robert did very well for me at Frock Me too so I am off to buy some presents tomorrow...also did my local Christmas Market today - good fun and sold lots of jewellery, Bristolians drive a hard bargain, haggling me like mad. I had some very crazy rude customers at Hammersmith by the way. It was all over a 1960s Chanel Bag (Navy classic) I had, I only wanted £200 for it and it was incredible, they kept saying £150. over and over, then £180. then that they were going to take it (oh yeah?) to the Chanel store and get it verified and then buy it, in the end I was red in the face and a bit shaken and told them they were doing my head in and that I did not want to sell it to them. They seemed a bit shocked and went away only to come back AGAIN a few minutes later, but by then I had hidden it and said it was sold (never done that before!) Then later a lovely couple came and looked at it, it was their anniversary - and the man bought it for her and I was so pleased it went to some lovely people who were so happy with it. Merry Christmas to all!

7th December 2008 I went down to the Retro Flea market at Trinity Hall today to have a browse, nothing worth buying for the fairs but I did get a sack of old marbles for my son and had a strange & embarrasing experience on my way out; I heard gospel singing coming from upstairs (its a huge old church) so me and my boys went up to listnen only to be spotted and then asked to join them, the minister came out (yikes) and asked us to come to their new church next sunday and I am so polite that when he asked for our phone number I gave it to him! (later was asked why I did not give a wrong number...) Now I will have to deal with it on the phone, I would love to hear them sing as they were amazing but thats all - now the boys are saying "have you heard mum has joined a Nigerian Gospel church?" Think I will have to say something like "thank you for the invitation but I am a stout (literally) pagan."

6th December 2008 Just back from Stroud Vintage Fair, it was great - lots of rough handling of the clothes though so had to put a lot away for a calmer, more gentle fair...hum. A customer of mine, Samantha came along with her sister, it was great to meet them - Sam puts 1920s chiffon and beaded dresses in the washing machine and gets away with it, mad if you ask me! Off to London next Sunday for a double fair day - not really looking forward to sorting out what stock should go where but I do have some beautiful new dresses and jackets so lots to choose from.....here is a cute tennis dress due to be loaded up to the 1930s dresses page asap:
.jpg)
And something else too...

28th November 2008 Finally have put on some lovely new pieces, here are two previews...

Just a few more fairs to go until Christmas, Stroud on the 6th and then both Frock Me and Hammersmith on the same day 14th December...I will have a stand at both but will be at Frock Me in person. Have just found some lovely victorian capes to upload - will be putting them up today....
19th November 2008 Hammersmith was really really busy and had to have double expresso on way home and trembled my way down the M4, my helper Lyndsey did not show - so I was alone again. Thankfully I have neighbours at the fair who are brilliant fun and look after my stand while I look around, get food etc...off to do Bath Vintage Fair this Sunday - its going to be amazing, in the Assembly Rooms, and only half an hour drive. Tomorrow I am doing a photo shoot will all new stock to go on the website! I hope to be uploading over the next week. Here are the Chanel Shoes....

14th November 2008 Madly trying to get ready for Hammersmith, its a small space (2 x 2 metres) and i have so much I want to bring....also a few women have asked me to bring pieces from the website to try on so its really goingt o be a squash. I just tried on the Gucci shoes and they fit me. Tonight I am going out for cocktails, dinner and James Bond movie (should I have seen Casino Royale first?) and they would go perfectly with my bond woman (admit I'm not quite a girl anymore) outfit....

6th November 2008 I am in Vogue! December 2008 issue - see Vintage Vogue page....I have so many pieces to put on the website just need some time (fat chance for now but asap) and then vintage Gucci 1950s handbag, 1960s Dior clutch bag, Ossie Clark and lots of 30s beauties will be available....I have a new assistant on the stand at fairs too, Lyndsey, she is cute and very helpful, I think she will be able to keep me awake on the motorways no problem....we did Stroud Vintage fair last Saturday 1st Nov and it was brilliant. The Dior turban below is currently listed on Ebay to finish today - vintage of course and in mint condition.

16th October 2008 Just recovered from doing Hammersmith Vintage Fair alone (no driver!) last Sunday, I found an amazing green 1930s leather clutch bag, huge! photos and listing soon.....have just updated some items and reduced the prices on lots of dresses ready for a new selection coming soon...x.
8th October 2008 Today Jan Waldron from the BBC is coming around to borrow the 1930s Gold Goddess Dress (picture below) an Ossie Clark (not yet on website - incredible couture) and the 1950s Dior New Look dress...they are going to be modelled on the Antiques Roadshow...can't wait to see that. I'm off to Hammersmith VIntage fair this sunday, if anyone wants a free ticket email me!

4th October 2008 Bristol has its own Harvey Nichols! I have been to 'window shop' and accidently bought myself some Dior sunglasses, big and black and beautiful. Today I've been to Stroud Vintage Fair ( I think I am going to do a stand at the next one - its in a beautiful hall in the middle of town) I bought some lovely things to take to London, and some YSL sunglasses for me - to me they are like shoes, I can't have too many pairs. This picture is of an amazing pair of 1970s Balenciaga glasses, new on my website (there are also Cazal, Ted Lapidus, YSL and more...):

4th Oct cont. The VINTAGE IT BAGS article is out - BBC Homes & Antiques, its written by Judith Miller (Of Millers Antique Guides) and features not only some of my favorite bags but some beautiful Hermes & Lucite bags as well. I will ask my web expert to load up the PDF of the article on the press page asap. Now I have a lovely week of getting all my new stock ready for Hammersmith and hopefully some new stuff online too, my new flat is not good for taking photos...I am looking for a good studio space and some models too...........LATER - SEE PRESS PAGE FOR FULL ARTICLE!

23rd September 2008 Phew, I did photograph the bags on the 16th but have had photoshop issues, I have just uploaded the new beauties on to the Handbags page today, there are sweet little art deco beaded bags, large leather clutchs, perfect pearly evening bags and more......

16th September 2008 Getting ready for a vintage handbag shoot today, got to get some more on the website in time for the BBC Homes and Antiques article....Hammersmith vintage fair was busy on Sunday 14th, I took my friend Tam with me to keep me awake on the motorway and we had a great time, managed not to shop for me too much.....when we got back home (after waking up at 3 am and working / driving to London all day) we went out dancing til 2 am, now I feel like a bruised vintage (old) lady.
8th September 2008 Frock Me was brilliant yesterday, great to see everyone again and I lots of shoes and boots - one pair of boots were a black suede stiletto pair (by Emanuelle) with many different colour ribbon laces to choose from - they used to belong to Elton John's wife....they were too small for me as usual. I bought only one piece for me, a crazy huge tulle boa, 1950s couture, not sure how or where to wear it but it was too amazing to turn down. More later...
29th August 2008 Just back from camping in the rain and wind, got a tanned face somehow, possibly from sitting very close to the fire every night. Homes & Antiques magazines just sent my bags back from the shoot, I think its November's issue but will keep you posted....the article and photos look brilliant, I have had a peek but not allowed to show anyone until its out. Have had some strange order page issues with the website but my superb web designer has already fixed it. Let me know if you are having any problems using the site and I will get it fixed! Now to get ready for Frock Me on the 7th Sept, have lots of new stock to put on here too, can't wait for school holidays to be over and get some time to myself......More soon + pics of the fashion show once I have cropped myself out of them.....
16th August 2008 Brilliant night at the First Fling fashion show last night, everyone had dressed in 20s and 30s style and looked incredible. 13th August 2008 Finally new images are up on the homepage! I am just selecting clothes for the First Fling Fashion Show this friday 15th @ The Berkeley Square Hotel, Clifton , Bristol, it kicks off at 7 pm for the VIPs with chamagne then by 8 everyone is allowed in to view my vintage collection, Gilly Woo Couture and some other designers, I am putting together 6 evening outfits and 6 day outfits with all accessories from the 20s and 30s. 30th July 2008 Why are the Italian and French Vogue better than ours? Just back from WOMAD music festival, it was fantastic, saw some strange vintage stalls there and the absolute highlight was watching Chic (1970s disco) live....more later, the website needs some help from my designer, the links page is not active (?) and I have new images for the home page....more soon!
13th July 2008 Later....tomorrow I am picking up my 8 copies of July's Italian Vogue (2 of each cover variation) from Borders in Clifton - they are doing a special edition using purely black models, I got this image from www.fashionafrica.com. I recommend getting yourself some copies - as well as showing support for a more equal fashion industry they are going to be collectors items - I'm going to keep some in the plastic and give the rest to my
nieces........... .jpg)
13th July 2008 Forgot to say on last entry that 30th June issue of Grazia magazine has Sienna Miller in a red 1950s Dior dress, this was bought from me at Frock Me! She was obviously in a hurry to wear it as if you look at the back its gathered roughly and the edges are a bit frayed. I will try and find an image online to put here......

There she is! good styling with the black shoes......image from www.theinsider.com. Infact if you scroll down you will see a picture of the dress on my stand at Frock Me along with another amazing dress, orange chiffon 1920s grecian.....
9th July 2008 Big blog gap again, here are some pics from the shoot, my clothes, Lou @ Ruined styling, Dona modelling, Chris Lucas photographer.....more soon, see them all (including lots I don't like! www.flickr.com/photos/arunproductions/ am loading more stock onto website too later - I have found an amazing new Ossie Clark, late 70s, green with Celia Birtwell floral print, just perfect condition!

28th May 2008. I am now a proud member of the Vintage Fashion Guild! If you have never checked out their website, do, its brilliant, lots of great shop links as well as vital information on caring for vintage clothing, vintage fairs and fashion history. Here is the link: www.vintagefashionguild.com I am getting new stock ready for Frock Me vintage fashion fair on June 8th and then Hammersmith vintage fair on the 15th, I have found some incredible 1920s beaded flapper dresses as well as some beautiful little art deco clutch bags, more stock to be uploaded asap on the website too.........here is a picture from my stand at the last Frock Me.

12th May 2008. Glad that week is over! Chelsea and Hammersmith Fairs were great, lots of women looking for wedding dresses (to wear to weddings and to get married in) and lots of lovely shoes for sale, I saw a pair of 1940s wedge sandals, black suede, beautiful shape in my size and went off to think about it and when I went back they had sold, this is the way with fairs, if you love it and it fits - buy it! I need to take my own advice. More soon.........
30th April 2008. Really really busy this week sorting out more pieces for the website and getting ready to do the "Memory Lane Fair" at Chelsea Town Hall on Sunday 4th May. I went to a lovely antique textile fair on Tuesday 29th (yesterday) in Honiton, Devon. I bought some lovely Edwardian lace blouses and nearly bought a vintage quilt .....but managed to resist but it did give me the idea to do 'soft things' for the home on the website too, quilts, anitque linen etc. Next Sunday 11th May is Hammersmith (London) vintage fair again so I will look for some more stunning pieces for the website while I am there. If anyone would like a free ticket email or phone me and I can get one to you either in post or via email.
25th April 2008. Now its live but not ready! We are working on the design, look and functions for a few more days but everything should be working - if anyone notices anything terrible I would be very grateful if you'd let me know..............so it was a good job I did not realise who Jean Paul Gaultier was as I would not have been so relaxed and probably would have said something embarrassing (I can do that a lot) as it was JPG and his stylish entourage went away very happy with their purchases and I had another great day in London.
22nd April 2008. This is my first ever blog, ( I don't like the word blog too close to bog) and the website is still not live! I have just found several more stunning 1930's evening gowns to measure, describe and photograph for the online shop and am off to France to buy some lovely early 50's dresses from a secret location...Keep an eye out for new pieces being added................more 'blog' soon, including how Jean Paul Gaultier bought three pieces of luxury vintage from my stand at The London Vintage Fashion & Textiles Fair and I did not know who he was....
