A truly one of a kind vintage dress. The colours and detail are superb. Hand made in the early 1950s from an embroidered shawl, beautifully backed onto velvet and lined. The maker has added and embroidered the bodice from scratch, it has probably been made for a ballet performance, there are "breathable" gaps under each arm hole and it may have originally been lace up / corsetted at the back.
It has been altered slightly at some point, and an extra insert of velvet has been added to give more room, it now zips up the back with a lace up cord at the top. It could be made smaller again by removing the velvet insert and either adding laces or replacing the zip. (Note: The shawl in first image has now sold- listing is for the dress only :-)
Very good: some very minor odd loose threads to embroidery, one small tear in the lining and a small area of wear near the right arm hole.
